Corporate Network

Overview

If you own a building, a floor or even a group of related offices and are going to have tenants sub-let them, then you may be interested in this service.

When a tenant wishes to access the Internet, there is generally two different methods that you can choose to take: -

  • Seperate Accounts - Each tenant has their own Internet account and access to the Internet. For example, Company A accesses the internet via a 256Kb ADSL connection, and Company B accesses through a modem dial-up connection.
  • Shared Account - You as a unit holder purchase a large internet account and share this out amongst the tenants. You probably either include it in their monthly rent or try to work out how much each person it using. Very likely all the tenants are on the same network.

The problem with the first option is that often some tenants wish to access shared resources, like printers, or they may wish to access each others networks.

The second option solves the problems of the first (to a degree) in that they can access shared resources, but now they can also access each other, so all the servers need to be secured properly. Things become more difficult at the end of the month when it comes to splitting the bill. Also who pays for maintaining the firewalls, the shared servers etc...

At WorldGuard Technologies, we encountered this exact problem with a group of our clients. We developed a solution and have been sucessfully running it for some time now. We have also performed the same solution at another location with the same success. Please read below for how we can help you.

Corporate Network Solution - Short Description

WorldGuard Technologies will take the hassel of providing a network to your clients out of your hands by providing a network and all the required equipment ourselves.

We will bill your clients directly and fairly for internet traffic used, and will provide the internet service as well. We will also maintain that network (covered in the monthly bill to your tenants) and ensure that it remains secure and reliable at all times. We will provide secure and seperate networks for each of your tenants that may optionally be joined (but still seperately charged for traffic).

Apart from a setup cost, there is no other cost to the unit holders/owners. The bills we send to your tenants will cover any maintance costs and internet usage. If they require IT Support that is not related to a network problem, then we can provide a Consulting Service as well.

Corporate Network Solution - Long Description

WorldGuard Technologies can provide for you a whole network solution. We will provide any of the equipment to run the network, ie: switches, routers, firewall; and we will maintain them so that everything remains fully secure and up to date.

Using smart VLAN technology and software developed by WorldGuard, we will give each tenant their own physically seperate network. Through an easy to use webpage, any tenant can opt to 'join' their network to another, and thus are able to opt to have shared resources. For example, you may have an internal shared network that contains resources like printers, faxes; Every tenant network can be configure to be able to access that network, but not to allow that network or any other network to access them back.

Each tenant is billed seperately and fairly for the amount of internet traffic their network has generated even if they have joined their network to another. Our software will even allow them to see which of their individual computers are generating the traffic for accounting purposes and will show the type of traffic as well.

We also offer many other services with a corporate network that are useful in the business world:

  • Local Servers - If any of the tenants are using any of our hosting services (Mail, web), we will provide a local server for greater speed and redundancy.
  • VPN Access - Each network will have the ability to be 'dialed' into from the outside (disabled by default), allowing people to connect when away from the office. They will only have access to the networks that they have access to when in the office normally.
  • Dial-up Access - If required, a network can dial into their own via a modem connection. They would need to provide the phone line(s). Multiple networks can share the same phone line(s).
  • File Server - We can provide a secure fileserver for use by a tenant. The fileserver is backed up daily (automatically) using our SnapBack software. We can provide you with offsite backups if you require (Or you can quite easily create them yourself anyway). To each tenant, the fileserver will only show their own files as it provides you with a virtual fileserver, and will not display that any other virtual fileserver exists on it. If a tenant requires, access to multiple virtual fileservers is also possible (IE: Person A works at Company A and Company B so needs access to both Company A's and Company B's virtual fileservers).

Apart from the inital setup fee there is no further cost to the unit holders/owners. The monthly bills we send to the tenants cover all the maintenance costs and ensure that the network remains secure and up to date. If there are any circumstances where there is additional costs to the unit holders/owners, then we will let you know during our quote.

If your tenants require an IT Helpdesk service as well, then we can provide directly to them our Consulting Service.

How do we do it

How we got this working was to develop the software to allow us to dynamically create networks, and integrated this onto a specially designed router. We also make use of many uplinks to different ISP's to provide a fast, reliable and fully redundant connection. This is normally a much faster and reliable connection that any tenant would get on their own. Finally we developed a sophisticated accounting system that keeps track of every computer on the network and manages the traffic usage, all without needing additional software on any computer.

Prices

It is very difficult to know without first looking at a prospective site what the costs will be. The figures below represent what we have encountered so far. Please contact us to arrange a time to give you a free quotation.

The following are the rough figures for the Owner/Unit Holder: -
Description Price
Once-off Setup Fee $660

The following are the rough figures for each Tenant: -
Description Price
Once-off Setup Fee $50
Monthly Fee $20-$150

The Month Fee will depend entirely on the location and what the cost of us providing volume internet to that location will be. In most cases it will be as low as $20 per month for low volume networks. Tenants will be given a range of plans that they can choose from and can change at anytime through a web interface with the changes taking place the following month. If a tenant wishes to use their own Internet service provider but still retain the benefits that our network provides they can hook up their connection as one of the uplink interfaces and we will configure the router to make any traffic from their network use that interface. This will attract a small fee for maintenance, with traffic costs going to the ISP.
